Impact Awards 2024 Finds New Home at North York’s Memorial Hall

The Impact Awards, which celebrates the achievements of individuals from the Caribbean and Black communities, has found a new home after facing an uncertain future due to the sudden closure of the Ontario Science Centre. This year’s event will be held at the Burgundy Room in the Memorial Hall, located at 5110 Yonge Street in North York. The awards ceremony will take place on October 19th, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

Though the new venue has a smaller capacity compared to the Science Centre, the Burgundy Room boasts an impressive stage, lighting, and sound system, ensuring a quality experience for attendees. This comes as a relief to organizers, who had faced the daunting task of securing a venue on short notice.

“The closure of the Ontario Science Centre put us in a tough spot, but we’re thrilled to have found a suitable location in the Burgundy Room,” said Luann Philgence, Chair of the Impact Awards organizing committee. “It’s a more intimate setting, but it offers everything we need to deliver a memorable evening for our honorees and guests.”

The event, traditionally held in October to coincide with Caribbean Heritage Month in Ontario, has become a cornerstone of recognition for those making significant contributions across various sectors. Despite the challenges, the organizing committee worked tirelessly to ensure that this important celebration of excellence within the community continues.

“We’ve had incredible support from the community and are grateful to everyone who took the time to nominate deserving candidates,” Philgence added. “This year’s honorees are as brilliant and diverse as ever, representing the best of our communities.”

With the new venue secured, final preparations are now underway, and excitement is building for the awards night. We are confident that, despite the initial setbacks, this year’s event will be a success.

The Impact Awards are known for shining a spotlight on trailblazers and leaders, and this year will be no different. The winners were announced two weeks ago and we look forward to telling the community more about them.
