Jamaican sprint stars dominate in Poland

In what was described as a resurgence of elite sprinting, Jamaican athletes Shericka Jackson and Kishane Thompson delivered standout performances at the Silesia Diamond League held in Chorzow, Poland.
Jackson, making just her third 200‑metre appearance of the season, clocked a season’s best 22.17 seconds to secure victory in the women’s race. Her performance showcased a powerful start and measured control, fending off a determined challenge from American Brittany Brown, who finished in 22.21 seconds, and Nigeria’s Favour Ofili, who secured third place in 22.25 seconds
On the men’s side, Kishane Thompson delivered a dramatic rematch of last year’s Olympic showdown with Noah Lyles. Thompson outpaced the Olympic champion, crossing the line in 9.87 seconds to match the event’s meet record, while Lyles recorded a season’s best of 9.90 seconds.

Though both champions were scheduled to compete again in Lausanne, they later withdrew; Thompson because of shin discomfort and Jackson following her demanding Silesia campaign
The Silesia meet itself turned into a showcase of rising talent. In the women’s 100m, Olympic finalist Tia Clayton delivered a personal best of 10.82 seconds, securing second behind American world leader Melissa Jefferson‑Wooden, who equalled the meet record with 10.66 seconds
Meanwhile, in the men’s 400m hurdles, Norwegian world record holder Karsten Warholm powered home in 46.28 seconds, a time that not only stood as a Diamond League record but ranked third‑fastest ever
The afternoon ended with star performances across multiple disciplines, confirming that the Silesia Diamond League had provided an unforgettable springboard for athletes and reaffirming Jamaica’s enduring strength in sprinting.
