Jamaica’s tourism industry is on track to achieve a historic milestone, welcoming nearly 5 million visitors and generating approximately US$5 billion in earnings. This development marks a significant recovery for the island, following the global disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent impact of Hurricane Beryl.

The projected figures for 2025 include 3.1 million stopover arrivals and 1.4 million cruise passengers, with tourism earnings expected to reach US$4.6 billion by year’s end. This recovery reinforces tourism’s central role in Jamaica’s economy and highlights the sector’s resilience.

Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, praised the industry’s efforts, noting that Jamaica’s global appeal, strong partnerships, and strategic planning have helped the destination rebound. “Our ability to approach the 5 million visitor mark and US$5 billion in earnings, despite major disruptions, is a testament to the dedication of our tourism stakeholders and the strength of Brand Jamaica,” said Minister Bartlett.

This achievement follows the government’s “5x5x5” tourism strategy, five million visitors, US$5 billion in earnings, and five years to achieve it. Despite setbacks, this goal is now within reach. Looking ahead, Minister Bartlett outlined a bold new target: attracting 8 million visitors and generating US$10 billion in earnings annually by 2030.

To reach that goal, Jamaica will focus on three strategic pillars: human capital development, airlift expansion, and diversification of visitor markets. The strategy aims to attract tourists from high-growth regions including Latin America, Asia, and parts of Europe.

Director of Tourism Donovan White noted growing confidence in Jamaica from international partners. Airlines, tour operators, and travel advisors have continued to invest in and promote the destination, which has helped fuel the industry’s strong recovery.

Tourism’s impact extends beyond visitor numbers. The sector supports hundreds of thousands of jobs across the island and stimulates growth in related industries such as agriculture, construction, and manufacturing. The anticipated US$5 billion in earnings translates to greater foreign exchange reserves, expanded infrastructure, and new opportunities for small businesses and local entrepreneurs.

Jamaica’s global reputation continues to strengthen. In 2025, TripAdvisor® ranked Jamaica among the top 25 destinations worldwide for honeymoons, food, and cultural experiences. The island also retained titles from the World Travel Awards as the “World’s Leading Cruise Destination” and “World’s Leading Family Destination.” The Jamaica Tourist Board was named the “Caribbean’s Leading Tourist Board” for the 17th consecutive year.

As Jamaica moves toward even more ambitious tourism goals, the country’s reputation for warm hospitality, cultural richness, and natural beauty remains central to its global appeal and economic strategy.
