As International Women’s Day approaches, the Jamaican Canadian Association is preparing to welcome hundreds of guests to a hallmark celebration recognizing the achievements of women across the Caribbean diaspora. The organization’s Women’s Committee will stage its 26th Anniversary International Women’s Day Lunch and Awards on Sunday, March 8, at the Jamaican Canadian Community Centre on Arrow Road in Toronto.
Running from 2.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m., the afternoon gathering has become a fixture on the city’s community calendar. This year’s theme, Give To Gain, underscores the belief that service, mentorship and advocacy create lasting returns not only for individuals but for the wider community.

Central to the programme is an awards presentation honouring nine women for their impact. The Women Who Inspire Change award will be presented to Heather Watson, Roxanne Francis, Keziah Myers, Angella Bennett, Dr. Ingrid Waldron, Simone Jennifer Smith, Dr. Crystal Garvey and Alethia O’Hara Stephenson. Prudence Betty will receive the Women Recognizing Women Volunteer Award for her longstanding commitment to the Association.
Organizers say the luncheon serves as a public affirmation of the leadership and labour of Black women and women of Caribbean heritage whose contributions are often overlooked. A committee spokesperson described the occasion as a clear statement that the efforts and sacrifices of women strengthen the entire community, adding that broad support is encouraged.
The programme will include a catered meal, a marketplace featuring local entrepreneurs and artisans, cultural performances and prize presentations. Stacy Ann Buchanan will serve as host, with keynote remarks from Kayla Marie Williams. Entertainment will feature gospel singer Tesharah Briscoe, poet Shelly Grace and violinist Ren Violin.
Tickets are priced at $75 per person, with limited seating available.
