Last weekend two calypso tents opened in Toronto, heralding the beginning of the city’s carnival season. The Professionals, back at the Steel Workers Hall, saw the return of Montreal’s and St. Lucia’s Dennis James, four-time calypso monarch. James was among a strong contingent of singers returning for another exciting season.

On Sunday, Kaiso Forum pitched its tent at the Tam Heather Club on Military trail while Tropical Rhythms is hanging out on Saturday nights at Howard Johnsons (Metropolitan Rd – Warden Ave & 401).
