Kardinal Offishall launches free concert series

Multi-award winning rapper, DJ, producer, and music executive Kardinal Offishall‘s is launching a series of free concerts called Free The City beginning June 30th    at CityView Drive-In. The concerts will blend philanthropy with entertainment as some of Toronto’s best talent and friends come together for an event that bridges generations, area codes and genres.

With most of the world’s performers and DJ’s not having opportunity to work amidst the pandemic, all the profits from Free The City will go directly towards the entertainers with the goal being to lift the spirits of creatives and fans.

“My city has been hurting for a long time and I wanted to create an event that allowed us all to come together safely and finally be able to celebrate, heal, and enjoy while rocking to a beautiful sonic backdrop of the sounds of Toronto,” says the Canadian legend.

“Many of us have suffered during the pandemic. Being physically distant and trying to remain socially connected has taken its toll on the City of Toronto and the world at large. We haven’t gotten to celebrate together, grieve together, or take part in the everyday joys of life”

The show promises “participation” from a long, multigenerational list of DJs, performers and celebrities from the city and outside of it. The flashiest names are American comedians Dave Chappelle and Michael Che.

There are also local legends like Michie Mee and Glenn Lewis and younger performers like Notifi. Other guests include: Donnell Rawlings, Karl Wolf, Shantel May, Jamar McNeil (Chum FM), DJ 4 Korners from the Raptors, Swaggerite, Dr. Jay de Soca Prince, Jester, Blessed, Agile, Asun Eastwood and Golde London.

Tickets for the June 30 event at the 20 Polson drive-in venue are already listed as “sold out”. However, this being a series of concerts there will be more opportunities to take in a show.

Kardinal will be giving away a handful of tickets over the next week. And keep your eye on CityView’s website in case they release more tickets.
