More than a dozen singers and dancers from Toronto’s Caribbean community have donated ” time and talent” for a benefit concert  to raise funds for relief efforts for Haiti following last month’s  devastating hurricane which killed more than a thousand  people in the island and left  more than a  million homeless.

In what has been described by the organizers of the event  as a “powerful show of unity,”  the ” Let’s Get Together for Haiti- Relief Concert, ” as it is called, is a collaborative effort of several groups along with the Caribbean Consular Corps.

The concert will be held at the Jamaican Canadian Centre in Toronto  this evening.

“Haiti has a powerful  history of strength and resilience but needs the diaspora at this time,Collectively we are responding to that call,” said Ms. Adaoma Patterson, president of the Jamaican Canadian Association (JCA).

In a news release, the JCA noted that all funds raised will be delivered to Pierspective Entraide Huminataire, a Haitian-led charitable organization in Toronto.

One hundred per cent of the funds collected will go to the most devastated  parts of Haiti, it said
