Every Tuesday evening when the House of Commons is in session, a small group of parliamentarians meet ” on  the Hill” to discuss a wide range of issues, specifically related to the black community in Canada.

Many  in Toronto may not be aware of this group, though several of its  members are from the GTA.. It calls itself the Liberal Black caucus.

As Celina Caesar Chavannes M.P.  for Whitby, Ontario and herself a member of the Liberal Black caucus, notes it not as well known as the Congressional Black caucus  in the United States – and certainly not as big  and as well established.

It has only a dozen members and was formed just a few months ago.

Chairman of the Liberal Black Caucus is Greg Fergus, M.P.  for Hull- Aylmer, Quebec .

The other members are:

Emmanuel Dubourg   (Bourassa- Quebec)

Ahmed Hussen ( York-South Weston  -Ontario)

Celina Caesar-Chavannes (Whitby-Ontario)

Hedy Fry (Vancouver Centre – British Columbia)

Marc Miller (Ville-Marie-Le Sud-Oest-ll-des-Soeurs – Quebec)

Bill Morneau (Toronto Centre – Ontario)

Kamla Khera (Brampton West – Ontario)

Frank Baylis  (Pierrefonds-Dollard – Quebec)

Adam Vaughan (Spadina- Fort York – Ontario)

Bill Casey (Cumberland-Colchester – Nova Scotia)

Gary Anandasangaree ( Scarborough – Rouge Park – Ontario)
