The broadcasting license for Toronto radio station G98.7 FM is up for renewal.

But the renewal which was originally scheduled to be considered today will be

rescheduled for a ” a later date,” according to a  media official from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).

So far,  the CRTC  has not announced a specific date.

In a schedule of notices posted on its website, the CRTC lists G98.7 as having a hearing today (September 7.)  This prompted some in broadcast industry to speculate on the fate of G98.7, citing CRTC concerns about the station.

According to the CRTC website, “Commission records indicate’’ that G98.7 “is in apparent non-compliance’’ with sections of the regulations under which it was given the licence to operate the radio station.

In an exclusive story in The Caribbean Camera last week, Jamaica-born Fitzroy Gordon, founder and chief executive officer of G98.7 FM, dismissed the idea that the station is in any imminent danger of losing the broadcasting licence it was granted in June 2011 by the  CRTC.

“I don’t see the station as being in danger of being removed by the CRTC,’’ ’he said.

Gordon, who also is manager of G98.7, admitted that the station has been non-compliant on some issues, but said that was “a while ago’’ and it is “old news.’’

The station’s license was “administratively renewed ” until August 31, 2018.
