Long-time carnival devotee dies in Toronto at 71

Trinidad-born Garth Stanley Magloire, father of  former  professional basketball player, Jamaal Magloire, died at hospital in Toronto  last Thursday.He was 71.

Magloire had been suffering with a “heart condition” and was in and  out of hospital for several months, his wife, Marion said.

He came to Canada in 1969 , worked as a welder for many years and  took a keen interest in the carnival arts.

” He was a popular figure in the mas’ camps,” a close friend of Magloire told The Caribbean Camera.

“Garth was always considered the life of the party or lime. I learned that back in his partying days, a fete didn’t really begin until he arrived,” his daughter, Natasha, said.

He was the father of five children -Wayne, Natasha, Jamaal, Justin (deceased) and Karlon – and grandfather of  eight.

A funeral service for the late Garth Stanley Magloire was held on Tuesday at Toronto East Seventh Day Adventist Church in Scarborough,
