London Mayor Sadiq Khan

Notting Hill carnival in London, often described as Europe’s biggest street party, brought thousands of revellers together during the August Bank Holiday weekend which ended on Monday.

At  the opening ceremony doves were released in tribute to those who died in the Grenfell Tower fire last June and a multi-faith prayer was said.

More than 80 people are believed to have died in the fire..

At 15:00 BST, sound systems were turned off to mark a minute’s silence

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said although the 51st carnival took place in a “context of sadness and sorrow,”it was a celebration of London’s diversity.
