Mayor’s School Tournament set for May

The fifth-annual CICB Trophy Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament is scheduled for May 11-15 at Sunnybrook Park and G. Ross Lord Park, with the finals held May 30 at Sunnybrook Park.

The tournament is expected to draw more young players this year with Halton, Hamilton and Durham Region school boards participating for the first time.

The CIBC Trophy Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament presented by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Canada is a way for CIBC and CIMA to extend support, engage youth and contribute to the community and the sport of cricket.

At the official launch of this year’s tournament last Thursday, Toronto Mayor John Tory said, “Cricket is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and its popularity is on the rise in Toronto.

“The 2015 Mayor’s Cricket Challenge is a celebration of sport for our young cricketers who are acquiring leadership skills and learning about teamwork and living healthy, active lifestyles.”

Meanwhile, the Cricket Council of Ontario will send the Ontario women’s team to take part in the GWCA T20 Women’s tournament to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, May 23-25
