Mississauga is joining in the Pan Am Games celebrations, hosting free concerts at two scenic venues.

The Lake Aquitaine and Sunset Concert Series both celebrate the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games with a focus on the sounds of participating countries.

Four free concerts are slated for Lake Aquitaine Park at 2750 Aquitaine Ave. The first was held last Sunday, featuring funk / soul vocalist Justin Bacchus, who performed well-known classics with a mix of original songs.

For the next three Sundays, from 2 to 4 p.m., Carlos Bastidas performs hot Latin tunes from his latest album Latin Journey while Sheldon Universe and his dance collective will offer for a free salsa dance class complete with live percussion, performances and more, while the final show will feature the Shyann Collective, an infusion of original, funky jazz music with soul rip-hop blended into a captivating, upbeat performance.

Meanwhile, the Sunset concert, which starts at 6:30 p.m. at Port Credit Memorial Park, 22 Stavebank Rd. N., will host five fabulous entertainers.

This Sunday, Mississauga Big Band Jazz Ensemble, a group of dedicated musicians celebrating the many styles of big band jazz will take to the stage while the following Sunday will be the Dreamboats as they perform good old- fashioned rock ‘n’ roll with a retro twist.

On Aug. 2, Latintrain features an exciting fusion of Pan Am rhythms including bolero, folkloric and joropo with a strong jazz influence. Lyrics will be sung in Spanish and English.

Aug. 9 and 16 will feature Mississauga Pops, an award-winning musical group which engages audiences of all ages with a diverse portfolio of popular music and Mississauga Swing Band, an 18-piece band with a vocalist performing a wide range of music, including swing, standards, Latin American, ballads, dance, pop and rock numbers.
