Mania Contemporary Arts is set to host RACONTEUR, an immersive new exhibition by acclaimed Canadian multidisciplinary artist Monk.E. Running from October 4th to November 15th, this show features 15 thought-provoking murals that blend aerosol and oil painting techniques. Each piece is inspired by photography captured during Monk.E’s extensive travels across the globe.
Born David Desharnais-Yergeau, Monk.E hails from Montreal and has established himself as a key figure in Quebec’s hip-hop scene. Over the years, he has gained international recognition for his work as a muralist, rapper, poet, and community activist. Starting with the K6A collective, Monk.E’s influence now spans continents, with murals in North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Eurasia. Through his work, he builds deep connections with the communities he visits, reflecting these experiences in his art.
Monk.E describes RACONTEUR as a deeply personal collection of transformative life moments, rendered into meditative visual pieces that trace his creative journey. “I live, paint, cry, and laugh with local communities. I build strong bridges wherever I go,” the artist shared. His murals often explore themes of spiritual introspection and cultural exchanges, with influences drawn from Taoism, Islam, and Rastafarianism. His style merges figurative depictions of humanity and nature with abstract graffiti elements.
In addition to his visual art, Monk.E uses his music and socially conscious projects to engage communities and promote cultural understanding. RACONTEUR is not only a showcase of his artistic evolution but also a testament to the power of art to transcend cultural boundaries.
