Mother of prominent carnival artists dies in Trinidad at 75

Germy Mary Eustace,  the mother of three  prominent  award winning carnival artists, has died in Trinidad. She was 75.

Toronto-based Marcus Eustace, one of her sons, said his mother  who was suffering with cirrhosis of the liver, died at  a  hospital in Trinidad last Friday.

He said she worked for many years as a receptionist ” at a Port of Spain firm.”

Marcus, bandleader for Carnival Nationz,  told The Caribbean Camera that his mother, a former beauty queen in Trinidad, did play mas’ .

” But she was really more a spectator than a masaquerader.”

She often came to Toronto  for the annual Caribbean carnival, he said.

His father,   the late Tedder Eustace ,was  a well known  mas’ player. He won ” king of carnival” thee times in  Trinidad.

And his brothers, Ted and Curtis, have also won ” king of carnival ” several times.

A funeral service for the late Germy Mary Eustace was held yesterday.

She leaves her three sons, Marcus, Curtis and Ted, her daughter, Lisa and eight grandchildren.
