House leader and the Member of Parliament for Ajax Mark Holland dropped in for a visit with Durham Community Action Group on Pantry Day. While the group were distributing food to members of the community, Holland was greeted by Gloria Small, members of the Action Group as well as community members, who were there to pick up their supplies of food for the week.

Impressed with the organization and distribution of food, Holland said that “the work that the organization is doing is desperately needed in our community” and encouraged the organization to continue its referral of people to his office.

The organization served about 120 families on Pantry Day. The families obtained high-quality food such as fruits, vegetables, bread, and even baby food. While they were at it, the Action Group provided advice and help on matters of immigration and how to acquire family services.

The group has been around for 15 years and is well established in the Durham area. Gloria Small is the vice chair of the organization which is located at 577 Kingston Road West, Ajax. The pantry is opened on Thursdays from 12:00 to 4:00 for families that are in need of their services.
