Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare honoured in Jamaica for contribution to music.
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Renowned producers, Lowell ‘Sly’ Dunbar and Robert ‘Robbie’ Shakespeare, dubbed the ‘riddim twins’ for their collaborative efforts inside the studio and on the stage, joined scholar and novelist Orlando Patterson as recipients of the 2015 gold Musgrave Medals.
The three headlined the list of eight recipients of this year’s medals.
Sly and Robbie are credited to have played on, and / or produced more than 200,000 records and their work with the introduction of computer-based rhythms, the Taxi Riddim and many more have given them a reputation of being game changers in Reggae music.
The two are being awarded for their contribution to music.
The Musgrave Medals have been awarded annually by the Institute of Jamaica since 1889.
