Arjun Nimmala, the 17-year old Florida high school short stop, was drafted 20th overall by the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday.
Nimmala became the highest-selected first generation Indian American and is looking forward to become the first person of Indian descent to play Major League Baseball.
He was one of the highest-touted high school hitters in the draft, coming off the 2022-23 season in which he won the Gatorade Florida Baseball Player of the Year while playing at Strawberry Crest High school in Dover, Florida. He was also an Under-Armour All American and first team All Conference selection.
Nimmala grew up playing cricket in Florida and on trips to visit family and friends in India.
