Ontario Steelpan Association (OSA)’s signature event PAN ALIVE Panorama – part of Toronto Caribbean Carnival – arrives at Lamport Stadium, 1155 King Street West, on Friday August 4th, 2023, Doors open at 6PM, Show begins at 7PM.
“Seven steelbands will take to the stage with their newest majestic arrangements, echoing through the air, touching our hearts,” says Stacy Rodriguez, OSA Business/Event Manager. “Our opening show will be a representation of uniting our legacy of freedom.”
Steelpan is the only new instrument created in the 20th century and is the instrument of the 21st century, transcending timelessly from generation to generation. The Ontario Steelpan Association is proud to represent the steelpan of the province.
“Carnival is not complete without steelpan, and we feel it is very important that we keep this tradition alive,” exclaimed Mischka Crichton, Festival Management Committee CEO, producers of Toronto Caribbean Carnival. “PAN ALIVE Panorama is a celebration and continuation of this rhythmic piece of Caribbean culture.”
Steelband is a symbolic element of Carnival and each orchestra brings their own unique style as they showcase their technical prowess, creativity, and soul-stirring melodies.
“PAN ALIVE Panorama is a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of the Caribbean and the enduring legacy of the steelpan,” explains Jennifer Hirlehey, Chair of the Festival Management Committee. “This event provides a platform for steelpan musicians to showcase their skills, and inspire the next generation of musicians.”
