Patriots edge Tridents in a thriller

Newcomer to the Hero Caribbean Premier League, the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots defeated defending champions Barbados Tridents by one run in the seventh match of the Caribbean Premier League played last Saturday at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots sent in to bat scored 143 for eight wickets in their 20 overs with O. Peters topscoring with 27. R. Rampaul. R.Emrit and K. Pollard took two wickets each.

Barbados Tridents in reply scored 142 for seven wickets in their 20 overs with skipper K. Pollard undefeated on 82. S. Cottrell and S. Tanvir took two wickets each.

In another match played last Sunday at Beausejour Stadium, Gros Islet, St. Lucia, the Jamaica Tallawahs defeated S.t Lucia Zouks by 10 wickets. St. Lucia Zouks sent in to bat scored 118 for nine wickets in their 20 overs with opener J. Charles topscoring with 29. K. Santokie and J. Theron picked up three wickets each.

Jamaica Tallawahs in reply scored 121 without loss in just 10 overs with skipper Chris Gayle smashing an unbeaten 90 off 36 deliveries which included nine sixes and six fours. He ended the match with four successive boundaries. His opening partner C. Walton was not out on 25.

At the end of the eighth round, the points table as of games played June 28: Barbados Tridents 6 points, St. Lucia Zouks 5, Jamaica Tallawahs 2, St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots 2, Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel 1 and Guyana Amazon Warriors at the bottom of the table with 0.
