International music star Rihanna returned to her native Barbados this week to take part in the country’s annual Carnival celebrations, appearing in an elaborate costume during the Grand Kadooment Day parade on Aug. 3.

The singer and businesswoman, born Robyn Rihanna Fenty, joined thousands of revellers for the parade, which marks the culmination of the month long Crop Over Festival. Traditionally, the event celebrates the end of the summer harvest and is one of Barbados’ largest cultural gatherings.

Rihanna’s outfit featured peacock coloured gemstones and feathers covering the elaborate costume from head to toe. She completed the ensemble with bright pink boots, adding a practical touch while participating in the outdoor festivities.

The appearance continues a long standing tradition for the Grammy Award winner, who has frequently returned home for Carnival despite her international success. Over the years, she has worn a variety of parade costumes, including all white ensembles, oversized pink feathers and a turquoise wig.

The Carnival festivities followed another family celebration on the island. Rihanna recently hosted a Spider Man themed birthday party for her son, Riot Rose Mayers, who turned 3 on Aug. 1. She shares Riot, son RZA Athelston Mayers, 4, and daughter Rocki Irish Mayers, 11 months, with partner A$AP Rocky.

Speaking previously about motherhood, Rihanna said raising children has brought a new perspective to her life.

“It makes me feel really cool to be a boy mom,” she told E! News in 2024. “Like I get to be as casual and busted as I want to, but it also forces me to embrace the epic things about being a woman, and a female and all my femininity.”

She added that “being a partner with Rocky and running the household” had been empowering as she adjusted to what she described as “new territory.”
