Ryerson honours six women with awards

Six outstanding women from Ryerson University’s Black community were honoured Monday at the Viola Desmond Day Awards Ceremony. Dr. Denise O'Neil Green (left), assistant vice-president and vice-provost Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, presented the awards. The honourees are, left to right: Julia Hanigsberg, president and CEO Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, who  received the 2015 Honorary Viola Desmond Day Award;  Juannittah Kamera, health promotion programs coordinator of Student Health and Wellness who received the Dr. Pearleen Oliver Ryerson Staff Award; Marsha Brown, Kia Cummings’ mother (Kia received the 2015 Viola Desmond Award and a 2015 Viola Desmond Bursary of $500); Oluwatobi Taiwo, fourth year Law and Business major, who received the Ms. Lillie Johnson Ryerson Student Award and Omolara Bakare, fourth year Social Work major, recipient of the 2015 Viola Desmond Bursary of $1,000. Six outstanding women from Ryerson University’s Black community were honoured Monday at the Viola Desmond Day Awards Ceremony.
