Irwin Reyes Johnson, renowned as Scrunter, is set to ignite the holiday spirit in Toronto with a performance featuring beloved classics such as “De Parang Now Start,” “Eat Something,” “Homemade Wine,” and more. Scrunter, the king of Soca Parang, will take the stage at the Metropolitan Centre on Finch Ave. just West of Kennedy Rd. on November 12th, marking the official kick-off to the Caribbean Christmas season in the city.

This eagerly anticipated event, the Joan Alexander Soca Parang Lime, promises a night of vibrant music and Caribbean culture, featuring local bands like Los Amigos, La Petite Musicale, Richard Luces, and the Pan Angel. The event will also showcase the talents of DJs Soca Vibes, Bad Lad, Undercover, Kosl. SKF and Vibes will host the Lime.

Notably, this is the second time the Joan Alexander Soca Parang Lime is taking place since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and it’s the first time an international artist of Scrunter’s caliber will grace its stage. The event is dedicated to the memory of the Lime’s founder Joan Alexander, who passed away in 2022 The event will continue to honor her legacy, as it has for the past twenty years, establishing itself as Toronto’s premier parang celebration for the last fifteen years.

Hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, Scrunter is a former Trinidad calypso monarch and a recipient of the prestigious Humming Bird Gold national award for calypso in 2016. This accolade attests to his exceptional talent and contributions to the world of music.

Kolin Alexander, Joan’s son, expressed, “This year, once again, we are celebrating Joan’s memory with two scholarships worth $10,000, awarded to deserving students in the nursing program at Toronto Metropolitan University. We chose nursing students because Joan dedicated many years of her life to the nursing profession.”

As Scrunter takes center stage at the Lime, attendees can anticipate a night of joy, nostalgia, and cultural celebration, all while supporting the education of future healthcare professionals in honor of Joan Alexander’s enduring legacy.
