Seales Blocked from Hampshire County Move

Seales Hampshire Deal Collapses After CWI Decision

Plans for West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales to feature in England’s County Championship have been called off after Cricket West Indies declined to issue the required No Objection Certificate.

The decision blocks a proposed stint with Hampshire County Cricket Club, where the 24-year-old had been set to play during the opening stretch of the red ball season. Both player and club are now adjusting to the sudden change.

Seales had been identified as a replacement for Michael Neser, whose own availability was withdrawn by Cricket Australia. The West Indies pacer was expected to participate in the first six matches, bringing international experience to a squad seeking stability early in the campaign.

With the arrangement no longer in place, Hampshire must quickly reassess its options ahead of the season opener. The late disruption leaves limited time to secure another overseas signing capable of filling the role Seales was meant to occupy.

The setback comes despite Seales’ familiarity with English conditions. He previously spent time with Sussex County Cricket Club during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, where he gained valuable match experience in the County Championship.

At the international level, Seales has already compiled a strong record, appearing in 26 Test matches and 38 limited overs fixtures for the West Indies. His performances have established him as one of the region’s leading pace bowlers.

No detailed public explanation has accompanied the refusal of the No Objection Certificate. However, the move is consistent with a broader approach by Cricket West Indies to manage the workloads of its fast bowlers, particularly with a demanding schedule ahead.

By keeping Seales within its system, the board appears focused on maintaining closer oversight of his preparation and fitness, prioritising sustained performance over short term overseas commitments.

For now, Seales is expected to remain engaged with regional and international duties as part of long term planning around one of West Indies cricket’s key assets.
