Shirley Bynoe has passed on

Shirley Victoria Bynoe

Shirley Victoria Bynoe, age 78, passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 6, 2021, at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. She was born in Trinidad on July 28, 1943, the 9th of 10 children: Cleve, Cynthia, Aldwin, Gloria, Charles, George, Jean, Selma, Shirley, and Anthony

A beloved Sister, Cousin, Friend, Aunt, God Mother, and much more, her zest for life will be long remembered with love, long after her passing.

Though she didn’t have children of her own, she was a second mother to her precious nephew Julian, who lived with her for a number of years. She became a great resource for direction, words of encouragement, words of wisdom, and joy as her door was always open to helping others.

Shirley loved Carnival, so after immigrating to Canada in the early 70s, she continued to support Caribana by extending her hospitality to visiting calypsonians by having them stay at her residence whenever needed. In her later years she renewed her vows to the Lord and completely surrendered her life to God’s will. Daily she provided scriptures and encouragement to many family members, friends, caregivers and strangers through WhatsApp and other means.

Shirley passed away on October 6, 2021, after a very courageous & determined battle against diabetes and eventually kidney disease; to the very end her posture of determination did not change!

Many thanks are due to the staff at St. Michael’s Hospital as they were instrumental in keeping Shirley’s quality of life as comfortable as possible. And, a further extended thanks to loved friend Margaret and her husband Tony, who were also very instrumental in Shirley’s care these last months with us.

Shirley will be missed by her two remaining siblings, family and friends.
