SISTAS CALLING returns: Inspiring Healing Through Art

Dr. Roz Roach

SISTAS CALLING announces its eagerly awaited return to the stage. Following its successful debut in 2023, the production will be showcased on Saturday, July 6th, 2024, at 7pm at the prestigious Greenwin Theatre in the Meridian Arts Centre, Toronto.

Dr. Roz Roach, the driving force behind SISTAS CALLING, emphasized its origins: “SISTAS CALLING was conceived, written, directed, choreographed, and produced by myself. In 2021 alone, there were 127,082 reported victims of familial violence.

Through this production, I aim to inspire the public to join the fight against violence and to empower them to embark on their own paths to healing.”

The production, described as the first of its kind in Canada, integrates music, dance, and spoken word to raise awareness and educate audiences.

Based on the real-life experiences of Rosa, a former resident of Dr. Roz’s Healing Place, the play chronicles her journey as an immigrant mother fleeing domestic violence with her young son. Supported by advocates and her unwavering determination, Rosa triumphs against all odds, with her story brought vividly to life on stage to spark crucial conversations. It also serves as a call to action for men to join efforts to eradicate violence and racism in society.

In 2021, Dr. Roz released the initial single from the Sistas Calling Production, the consent anthem “No Means No,” accompanied by its music video, followed shortly by singles “Celebration” and “Sistas Calling.”

Dr. Roz Roach, a feminist therapist, has dedicated her career locally and globally to eliminating the stigma of violence, particularly against women and girls. She is the Founder and Executive Director of Dr. Roz’s Healing Place, a Center for Empowerment and Healing for survivors of domestic violence.

Tickets for the show are $90 and are available at Meridian Theatre Box Office.
