SIU waits on further evidence in its investigation into the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU),  Ontario’s police watchdog, says it’s looking to speak to one more witness in its investigation into the death of  Regis Korchinski-Paquet, a Toronto woman who fell from her balcony while police were in her apartment.

It says it has spoken to three of  the dead woman’s  family members about the incident and received a statement from a fourth.

The agency says it’s been made aware of another witness who was at the apartment and is trying to speak to that person.

Seven civilian witnesses, six witness officers and one subject officer have already been interviewed by the SIU.

The SIU says it has asked the family’s lawyers to identify any additional witnesses and provide any information about the case as soon as possible.

The family’s counsel is also conducting its own investigation into the incident.
