South Africa after losing their opening match in the Ballr Cup Tri- Nations Series to the West Indies last Friday, bounced back by defeating world one-day champions Australia by 47 runs Tuesday in their second game at Providence National Stadium, Guyana.

South Africa elected to bat first scored 189 for nine wickets in their 50 overs with allrounder Farhaan Behardien scoring his fifth ODI half-century (62). Opener Hashim Amla chipped in with 35 and skipper AB de Villiers made 22. N.M. Coulter-Nile, J.R. Hazlewood and G.J Maxwell took two wickets each.

Australia in reply were all out for 142 in 34.2 overs with opener Aaron Finch topscoring with 72 and off-spinner Nathan Lyon made 30. Kagiso Rabada took three for 13 and Wayne Parnell, Imran Tahir and Aaron Phangiso took two wickets each.

Player of the Match was awarded to F. Behardien.

In the second match of the series played last Sunday at the same venue, Australia defeated host West Indies by six wickets.

West Indies sent in to bat were skittled out for 116 in 32.3 overs. Australia in reply made 117 for four wickets in 25.4 overs.

The victory for South Africa on Tuesday meant the Guyana leg of the tournament ended with all three teams securing points from one win.

South Africa’s bonus-point takes them to five points alongside Australia, while the West Indies are on four points, with all teams having won and lost once from two matches each.

The series now moves to Warner Park, St. Kitts, with the following matches: Saturday (June 11) Australia vs South Africa; Monday (June 13) West Indies vs Australia and Wednesday (June 15) West Indies vs South Africa.

The final leg of the series will be at Kensington Oval, Barbados, with matches on June 19, 21 and 24. The grand final will be on June 26.
