SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Son of St. Croix Tim Duncan stands alone in NBA history.
After the San Antonio Spurs’ 94-84 win over the New York Knicks, he has 954 career wins, the most for any player with one team – an amazing record.
This is Duncan’s 19th season in San Antonio. Knicks forward Kristaps Porzingis, who faced Duncan on Nov. 2, was not even two years old when the future Hall of Famer was drafted. Since that day in 1997, the Spurs’ worst season was 2009-10. They won 50 games that year.
Perhaps most impressive is the fact that, at 39 years old, U.S. Virgin Islander Duncan isn’t just a role player. It seems impossible but he’s still one of the very best big men in basketball.
There are many factors that go into San Antonio’s sustained success – brilliant coaching, scouting and drafting come to mind – but none is bigger than his consistent excellence.
