St. Kitts-born dentist Dr. Keith Blake dies in Toronto at 89

Dr. Keith Blake

Dr. Keith Blake who practiced dentistry in Canada and in his native St. Kitts for several decades, died  at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto on May  28 last,  after suffering a stroke. He was 89.

After  receiving his early education in St. Kitts, Dr. Blake came to Canada to attend university.

His daughter, Brenda Blake, said  that after  he graduated from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, he went back to St. Kitts where he started  his career as a dentist “but in 1992 returned to Canada and established  his practice in Toronto .

“Then in 1992 , he  went back to St. Kitts and continued  to work as a dentist until he was 84 years old.”

Brenda  Blake recalled  that her father was an avid golfer.

” Golf  was his big passion and during his retirement he spent a lot of time on  the golf  courses.”

She said  Dr. Blake was healthy most of his life but at the beginning of this year, he developed pneumonia and had  to be hospitalized.

His wife, Judith, died several months ago.

Dr. Blake is survived by daughters, Brenda Blake and Victoria Barlizo. daughter-in-law, Michelle Lerman-Blake, his brothers, Russel Blake and Sydney Blake, three  grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A graveside funeral service was held for Dr. Keith Ellsmere Blake in Toronto on Saturday.
