Her experience working with children and her dedication to promoting culturally relevant Caribbean literature shape her creative voice. Her stories aim to celebrate Caribbean childhood and remind young readers of the warmth and richness of island life.
Will and Krill is a heartfelt tribute to sisterhood, inspired by her relationship with her own sister. Through the friendship of two contrasting sea creatures- one quiet and introspective, the other outgoing and bold- Byer explores themes of individuality, empathy, and connection. Set against the vibrant backdrop of a Caribbean reef, the story reflects the beauty, diversity, and close-knit spirit of island communities. With* Will and Krill*, Stacey Byer celebrates sibling bonds and honours the enduring spirit and unity of the Caribbean.
“Deep in the Caribbean Sea lived a tiny, timid whale named Will.

Will wants nothing more than a friend. But she is so teeny-tiny that no one ever seems to notice her. She is ignored at finball practice, never chosen to play in the orca-stra, and always forgotten in a game of shell-and-seek. After plucking up all her courage, she sets out to find a friend. But when she finally finds the friends, she’s been dreaming of, who will stick up for them? Through enchanting, under-the-sea illustrations, Will and Krill tells a tale for shy and quiet kids, encouraging them to find where they belong–and use their voice when it really matters.” – Beaming Books, June 2025
