A 15-year-old girl has been charged with the murder of 19 children who died in the May 21st blaze at the female dormitory of the Mahdia Secondary School in Guyana.
The police said that the accused appeared via Zoom on Monday at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce. She was not required to plead and was remanded to the Juvenile Holding Centre until July 4.
She allegedly caused the death of her schoolmates when she set the dormitory of the Mahdia school ablaze.
Eighteen girls and one boy died in the fire which started after 11 p.m..
The boy, Adonijah Jerome who was five year old and the youngest of the victims, lived in an apartment next to the dormitory with his parents, who were the caretakers.
Another 29 girls were injured in the blaze.
