TFC in must-win playoffs match

Coach Greg Vanney – “a very talented team.”

Greg VanneyToronto FC plays the most important game in the franchise’s history tonight (Oct. 29) in Montreal.

The game starting at 7 p.m. at Saputo Stadium marks the first time TFC has appeared in the postseason.

TFC is in a must-win situation in a rematch against the Impact which defeated it 2-1 Sunday in the MLS regular-season finale.

That game placed Montreal (15-13-6) in third in the Eastern Conference while Toronto (15-15-4) dropped to sixth. It also gave Montreal home-field advantage to open the playoffs.

If Toronto wins today, they will play the New York Bulls next in the two-game Eastern Conference semi-final. A Montreal win means they will face Columbus Crew.

“We know we have a very talented team,” said Coach Greg Vanney.

“But if we make the right plays and we stick together as a team and tactically make the adjustments that we need to make, then we have as good a chance as anyone in this league to win the championship, in my opinion.”

Toronto lost its past five road games and is 0-6-2 away from home since a 2-1 win June 6 at D.C. United.
