Big is not a big enough word to describe this Saturday night’s bandlaunch. Toronto Revellers will be the first “Big” band launch of the 2024 Toronto Caribbean Carnival season as they present “GAIA: Mother of All Life”.
If the Revellers sell out the Parkview Manor banquet hall, and apparently, a thousand wannabe revellers will see what the Toronto Revellers will be wearing on the road this August 3rd – the date of the Toronto Caribbean Carnival’s Grande Parade.
“We are selling well, but we will have a few tickets available at the door,” Management Team member Trona St. Omer told the Caribbean Camera. The tickets are $55.00 each and the doors open at 9pm.
The Parkview Manor is in a restaurant plaza at 55 Barber Greene Rd, just west of Don Mills Rd. It offers ample free parking and is conveniently situated close to Eglinton Avenue and nearby public transit.
“Gaia is the goddess of all life,” stated St. Omer. “We will be showcasing all the elements of life in our costumes: Fire, Earth, Water, Air, and Spirit.”
On stage, male and female models will present the costumes that the Revellers’ fifteen sections will wear in the Grand Parade on August 3rd. The section names and the themes they have been influenced by will be revealed on Saturday night.
Organizers have confirmed that NBA great Jamaal Magloire, known as the Big Man, will be on stage to kick off the show. “There is no way he would miss this; it is his baby,” said St. Omer.
Supplying the music will be a trio of DJs: DJ Ultimate Sting, DJ DOC, and DJ Steph Honey. Some of the mas band’s sponsors include Adidas, DelMonte, Morgan Williams, and The Keg.
“Be prepared to be absolutely mesmerized by the beauty of these gorgeous costume creations,” read the band’s latest social media post. “It’s going to be an incredible evening you won’t want to miss.” And if you do miss it, the Toronto Revellers mas camp will be at 2206 Eglinton Ave E, Scarborough this year.
