A family-centric affair, the picnic has been a staple of the alumni’s activities since its inception. This year featured a variety of activities to engage attendees of all ages. Highlights included the children’s track and field events.

“We’re glad that we’re doing the picnic because it’s a family function and everybody looks forward to coming here,” said Therese Conliffe, the Public Relations Officer of the Tranquility Alumni of Canada. “Last year was our first picnic after the pandemic. This year, we are even bigger and better than last year.

Since the first picnic, children’s activities have been a core part of the celebrations. The introduction of the ice cream truck, offering free servings, became an instant hit. We saw around 100 children attending, and this year we have surpassed that number.”

The picnic fosters community spirit and intergenerational bonding. Children, parents, and grandparents partake in various races, from the needle and thread race to the egg and spoon race. One of the most anticipated events was the Tug of War, where girls have shown remarkable determination.

The boat cruise, “Shades of Orange,” has become the primary fundraising activity since the pandemic halted the annual gala. Funds raised support both local initiatives and the alumni’s alma mater in Trinidad and Tobago. Over the years, the Tranquility Alumni have donated computers, books, and sporting equipment, ensuring the school’s students have the necessary resources to perform.

The picnic’s success is a testament to the dedication of the Tranquility Alumni. Their commitment to creating a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment for families is evident in the careful planning and execution of each event. The board’s prudent financial management has ensured the longevity and continued impact of their efforts, allowing them to celebrate three decades of community service.
