A 69-year-old Trinidadian woman was found stabbed to death in her Bronx, New York home on Sunday night.
The victim, identified by family members as Lila Ramsaran, formerly of Penal, Trinidad, had been stabbed multiple times in the back when police found her inside her house on Cranford Avenue near Hill Avenue in Wakefield about 9:30 p.m., officials said.
Ramsaran, who lived alone, was complaining about not feeling well on Saturday and relatives were calling to convince her to attend church with them Sunday, said the victim’s niece, who declined to give her name, the New York Daily News reported.
“We were calling her today to go to church and there was no answer. I felt like something was wrong because it’s not like her to not answer the phone,” the distraught niece said. “Then we got a call from one of the tenants about a possible gas leak in the home and so that is why we came here. We were not expecting to find out anything like this.”
Ramsaran grew up in Trinidad but moved to the United States about 40 years ago, her niece said. In recent years, she was living mostly back in Trinidad but would come back to check on her Bronx home, where she lived in a basement apartment and rented the upper two floors to two tenants.
