Trinidadian author and historian Michael Anthony died at his home in Port of Spain last Thursday. He was 93.

In the mid-1950s Anthony left Trinidad to live in England where he worked at the Reuters News Agency and began his career as a writer.

Anthony had more than 30 titles published, including novels, collections of short fiction, books for younger readers, travelogues and histories.

His first book, The Games Were Coming, was published in 1963.

In 1970 he returned to Trinidad to work as an editor and researcher for the Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of culture and as a radio broadcaster of historical programmes.

Anthony was awarded the Hummingbird gold medal for his contribution to literature in1979 and received an honorary doctorate from the University of the West Indies in 2003.
