A packed gathering at the Trinidad and Tobago Consulate last Friday, at their 52nd Anniversary of Independence of the republic, witnessed an entertaining and educational collective under their motto, Together We Aspire. Together We Achieve.
“Canada was the first country in the world to recognize our newly independent nation in 1962. Thank you to all the 100,000 nationals who have made Canada their new home away from home and who have added our vibrant cultural heritage to the Canadian mosaic,” Consul General Dr. Vidhya Gyan Tota-Maharaj said.
She expressed appreciation for Canada’s contribution to Trinidad and Tobago, including in all three areas of the rule of law: Cops, Courts and Corrections, adding, Canada is a blessed nation and “we can proudly proclaim that we share similar harmony with our various ethnic groups.
“We must pay homage to our first prime minister, the late Dr. Eric Eustace Williams, for his dynamism towards this milestone achievement,” Tota-Maharaj said to the wide agreement of the audience.
