The Consul General of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago hosted a cricket match between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica in 2012 celebrating 50 years of independence of both countries. It was a wonderful event at the beautiful grounds of Scarborough Campus, University of Toronto with Caribbean families and friends in attendance. Jamaica won the tournament in a highly competitive match which featured very skilled and talented players on both teams.
This historic cricket match was organized and managed by the Fete MatchAssociation Toronto [FMAT] comprising of a group of experienced professionals. This event may not have been possible if it was not for the title sponsorship of Sorkkam and their live broadcast which was accessible worldwide. The generosity and support of the president and founder Mr Warren Sinnathamby was well appreciated.
This year 2013, the Consul General is again pleased to work in partnership with Fete Match Association Toronto and Sorkkam, who have decided to expand the tournament to include Guyana. Guyana is expected to play Jamaica with the winner competing against Trinidad and Tobago, the hosts of the tournament, for the Consul General/Sorkkam trophy.
The Consul General of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr.VidhyaTota Gaya Maharaj states “Cricket is a sport that has a long history of promoting goodwill and a sense of unity and pride in the Caribbean. Trinidad and Tobago, through the efforts of my Office, is pleased to partner with the Fete Match Association Toronto [FMAC] in organizing this wonderful family event”.
We are looking forward to this event on the day celebrating the Independence of Trinidad and Tobago on August 31st and urge nationals of the Caribbean to attend with their families and friends.
