Two prominent members of the Caribbean community – lawyer Edward Sapiano and Calypsonian Kurk Barker – died within the last few days.
Edward Sapiano, a colourful defence lawyer, well known for challenging authority, died of complications of kidney disease.
According to the local media, Sapiano died on Saturday at his farm in the hamlet of Gores Landing, north of Cobourg. He was 57 and had been ailing for many years.
And on Tuesday, Toronto calypsonian and band leader Kurk Barker died in Trinidad from many complications.
Barker is the former leader of the band, Supersonic Brass, and was a singer for over 35 years. He was a member of the Organization of Calypso Performing Artistes (OCPA)
According friends and relatives on social media,Barker died while holidaying in his hometown, La Brea, in South Trinidad.
