The June 4th event gives participants and supporters an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of many 1 in 9 men in Canada will develop prostate cancer, men of African or Caribbean descent are at an increased risk.

The Walnut Foundation’s highly-anticipated ‘Walk the Path’ Walkathon will take place on June 4, 2022. For seven years-rain or shine-family, friends, and supporters have gathered to help build awareness and raise funds to help men, particularly Black men who are disproportionally affected, better understand and be responsible for their health through diverse Prostate cancer education initiatives.

The Walkathon’s Honorary Chairman is Mr Roy Williams, a former educator, JCA President and the first person of color ever to be appointed to the Toronto Police Services Board. He also happens to be a prostate cancer survivor who through early detection and treatment has been able to enjoy a high quality of life for over 25 plus years. He has agreed to lend his name to the cause in order to help end the cycle of secrecy around this disease and to encourage black men to be more proactive about their health.

“The success of our annual walkathon has been an invaluable resource for providing a safe space for men to meet and share their experiences, our Black History Month Symposium, our Health Conference, and our various community outreach and family support programs,” said Anthony Henry, First Vice-President.

The event is an in person walk this year after a 2- year virtual walk due to COVID 19, however participants can still walk virtually or in their own space if they are not comfortable doing an in person walk. The 10 KM walk takes place along the Etobicoke Creek Trails in Brampton Ontario at 8:30AM starting at Loafers Lake Recreation Centre, 30 Loafer’s Lake Lane, Brampton. Individuals can register themselves or their teams online or by email at info@thewalnutfoundation.com.
