T20 World Cup: West Indies seal Super Eight berth
India and Sri Lanka’s joint staging of the ICC T20 World Cup has already produced its first Super Eight qualifier. The West Indies booked that spot on Sunday night in Mumbai, brushing aside Nepal by nine wickets at the Wankhede Stadium to extend their unbeaten run to three matches.

With one Group C fixture still to play against Italy in Kolkata on Thursday, February 19, the Caribbean side has secured progression and momentum. Pre-seeded as the second ranked team in the group, they are assured of carrying that seeding into the next round regardless of who finishes on top.
The Super Eight will feature two groups of four teams in a round robin format, with the top two advancing to the knockout stage. The West Indies have been drawn alongside India, South Africa and Zimbabwe. They open that phase against Zimbabwe on February 23 at the Wankhede Stadium, meet South Africa in Ahmedabad on February 26 and close against India at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 1.
Sunday’s contest was effectively decided inside the powerplay. After choosing to field, the West Indies ripped through Nepal’s top order, reducing them to 23 for 4 just outside the initial six overs. Jason Holder led the charge, supported by Matthew Forde and Akeal Hosein.
Holder finished with 4 for 27, lifting his tally to seven wickets in three matches and placing him among the tournament’s top five wicket takers so far. Nepal were limited to 133 for 8, with Hosein, Forde, Roston Chase and Shamar Joseph each claiming one wicket.
The chase rarely threatened to drift. Shai Hope and Brandon King raced to 43 without loss before King fell for 22. Hope then combined with Shimron Hetmyer in an unbroken 91 run partnership that closed out the match emphatically.
Hope struck five fours and three sixes in his 61 and moved past 1500 T20I runs. Hetmyer contributed 46 from 32 balls, including four fours and two sixes, bringing his tournament tally to

133 runs in three innings at an average of 66.50.
Reflecting on the campaign, Hope said, “When we got on the plane to come here, that was the first step, and we all want to lift the trophy but there is a process to get there by playing our best cricket and peaking at the right time and growing as a strong unit.”
