West Trinifest Triumphs in Thrilling T&T Independence Cricket Match in Brampton

West Trinifest defeated East Trinifest by an exciting two-wicket margin last Saturday at the Andrew McCandless Park, Brampton, Ontario where Trinidad and Tobago celebrated its 62nd Independence Anniversary.

West Trinifest batted first at the invitation of East Trinifest and reached a challenging 112-9 from the allotted 25-overs while East Trinifest replied with 110-9 at the expiration of the 25-overs. Opener Christian Thurston hit a top-score of 48 for West Trinifest which included a four and a six.

When East Trinifest batted, Ryan Pittaman, who recently represented Canada at the International Masters Cricket Over-40 World Cup in South Africa, made 22 not out as off-spinner Javed Mohammed grabbed 3-6 from three overs. Chris Teewari supported him  with 2-17 from three economical overs on a responsive pitch.

Thurston was named player-of-the-match for his excellent batting performance for which he received a trophy. Pittaman, a left-arm orthodox spinner captured 1-16 from his four overs and was chosen as the Most Valuable Player on the runners-up side. He also took home a trophy for his all-round effort.

Meanwhile, West Trinifest was captained by former Trinidad and Tobago first-class cricketer Richard Kelly. Kelly was a dynamic player and also featured for the Caribbean twin-island in List A and T20 cricket. Statistically, he appeared in 43 first-class matches.

Music, drumming, and steelpan music added to the atmosphere of a classic Tringo event.
