WICB name 20-member squad for training

The West Indies Cricket Board selection panel has announced a 20-member Windies squad for a training camp in preparation of the upcoming home test series against England which starts next month.

The camp will begin April 5 in Antigua, ahead of the first test which starts on April 13.

The squad includes four uncapped players – fast bowlers Carlos Brathwaite and Miguel Cummins and wicketkeeper / batsmen Shane Dowrich and Shai Hope from Barbados.

Darren Bravo has returned to the team after recovering from injury and the selectors have recalled Guyanese spin bowling pair Devendra Bishoo and Veerasammy Permaul.

The full squad: Sulieman Benn, Devendra Bishoo, Jermaine Blackwood, Carlos Brathwaite, Kraigg Brathwaite, Darren  Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Sheldon Cottrell, Miguel Cummins, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Leon Johnson, Veerasammy Permaul, Denesh Ramdin, Kemar Roach, Marlon Samuels, Devon Smith and Jerome Taylor.

In other news, the West Indies were knocked out of the World Cup after they were defeated by New Zealand by 143 runs in the 4th Quarter Final last Saturday at Westpac Stadium in Wellington, New Zealand.

New Zealand scored 393 for six wickets in their 50 overs with M. Guptill undefeated on 237. J. Taylor took three for 71.

West Indies in reply were all out for 250 with Chris Gayle topscoring with 61 and skipper Jason Holder chipped in with 42. T. Boult took four for 44.

The World Cup final will be played Saturday (March 29) at Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia, with New Zealand vs Australia or India).
