West Indies delivered a commanding all-round performance to crush Sri Lanka by an innings and 217 runs in the second Test, with veteran fast bowler Kemar Roach marking the occasion by claiming his 300th Test wicket in a dominant display at the crease and with the ball.

The home side had already seized control of the match long before the final innings, declaring at a formidable 626 for 9 on the third day after establishing a first innings lead of 318 runs. The innings was anchored by a record sixth-wicket stand between Amir Jangoo and captain Roston Chase, which provided the platform for West Indies to bat Sri Lanka out of contention.

When play resumed on the fourth morning, Sri Lanka’s hopes of survival were quickly dismantled by a relentless West Indies pace attack operating with pace, precision and sustained movement. Roach, Jayden Seales, Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph combined to expose the visitors’ fragile batting line-up, repeatedly generating movement both through the air and off the pitch that Sri Lanka’s bowlers had failed to replicate.

Roach’s landmark moment arrived when he bowled Asitha Fernando with a delivery that swung sharply into the stumps. The dismissal, his 300th in Test cricket, triggered immediate celebrations as teammates surrounded the 36 year old pacer before he was later presented with a commemorative West Indies shirt marked with the number 300. He became the first West Indies bowler since Curtly Ambrose to reach the milestone, joining an elite group that includes Courtney Walsh, Ambrose and Malcolm Marshall.

The Sri Lankan innings unraveled almost immediately. Roach struck in the opening over, trapping Nishan Madushka leg before wicket, before Seales removed Kasun Rajitha via the slips. Shamar Joseph then broke through twice in quick succession, including a delivery that bowled Kamindu Mendis after he shouldered arms and another that trapped Dhananjaya de Silva lbw.

Alzarri Joseph added further pressure by dismissing Kusal Mendis, with a ball that jagged back sharply into the stumps. By lunch Sri Lanka were in disarray at 81 for 6, with only Dinesh Chandimal offering resistance. His 43 from 60 balls stood as the top score in an otherwise collapsed batting effort, with no other top order batter reaching double figures.

The end came swiftly after the interval. Roach added two more wickets to his tally before Seales completed the rout, sealing victory inside 6.1 overs of the final session.

The result underlined West Indies’ dominance throughout the Test, as they controlled proceedings from the opening days and produced a sustained fast bowling masterclass that Sri Lanka were never able to withstand.
