Windies recall Sarwan, Deonarine for Aussie series

The West Indies Cricket Board selectors last Tuesday named the 15-man squad for the upcoming limited overs tour of Australia which starts on January 29th.

Ramnaresh Sarwan, the Guyana and West Indies experienced middle-order batsman and allrounder Narsingh Deonarine have been recalled. Sarwan last played for the West Indies in ODIs in June 2011.

The 32-year-old has played 173 matches and scored 5644 runs at an average of 43.41. Deonarine last played for the Windies in ODIs in June 2010 and has appeared in 20 ODIs.

The squad will be led by Darren Sammy while Dwayne Bravo has recovered from injury and has been named as the Vice-Captain.
Marlon Samuels has not been selected for the tour due to a face injury he suffered while playing for his team the Melbourne Renegades in a match against the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League in Australia. Samuels was struck in the face by Sri Lanka’s fast bowler Lasith Malinga.

The full squad: Darren Sammy (Captain) Dwayne Bravo (Vice-Captain) Tino Best, Darren Bravo, Johnson Charles, Narsingh Deonarine, Chris Gayle, Jason Holder, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Kieran Powell, Kemar Roach, Andre Russell, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Devon Thomas (wicket-keeper).

The coach is Ottis Gibson, the team manager is Richie Richardson and the selector is Courtney Browne.

The squad will depart Barbados on January 23rd and will arrive in Australia on Saturday, January 26th.

The tour starts with a warm-up match on Tuesday, January 29th against a Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. The first ODI starts on Friday, February 01st at the WACA Ground in Perth and the 5th ODI is on Sunday, February 10th at the MCG in Melbourne, followed by the only T20I on Wednesday, February 13th at the Gabba in Brisbane.
