Who is championing Caribbean artists in Canada these days? Toronto-based actress and multi-disciplinary artist Yvette Martin, that is who. What has she done? In 2021, she founded Working Artist Caribbean, an arts initiative dedicated to promoting and creating platforms for Caribbean artists of all genres.

Where is the initiative based? In Toronto, with connections that stretch across the Caribbean and internationally too. When did it start? Four years ago, and it’s been growing steadily ever since. Why was it created? To support both emerging and established Caribbean creatives, and to ensure their voices and talents are represented in theatre, film, television, music, and visual arts.
Never seen her? Just peak backstage next time you are at a big time concert or play, for example, and you will likely see her hard at work. Yvette Martin, is a well-known seasoned professional with decades of experience in concerts, festivals, stage productions, film, television, international radio broadcasts and music videos, brings her wealth of knowledge and cultural passion to every project.

Her Working Artist Caribbean project collaborates with artists, producers, directors, engineers, and arts organizations to deliver meaningful entertainment experiences that spotlight Caribbean creativity in this country.
Since its inception, Working Artist Caribbean has collaborated independently and collectively with Caribbean artists, engineers, producers, directors, and arts organizations to create and deliver high-quality entertainment experiences for both artists and audiences.
“I’m not filling a void, just adding to the vibrations that are already created,” Martin told the Caribbean Camera.
Now in its third year, Working Artist Caribbean presents the 3rd Annual D’Arts Industry Mixer, taking place Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Class Resto Lounge in Toronto. This free networking event is meant to show the GTA Caribbean creative community just what Yvette Martin is up to these days by offering a space where artists of all disciplines can connect, collaborate, and cultivate new partnerships.

Continuing its commitment to international creative alliances, Working Artist Caribbean is sponsoring the 2025 Canada “Hot Wata” Promo Tour, featuring the dynamic, popular Jamaican reggae group Kuzikk. Known for their energetic performances and hit songs like “Too Black” and “Fly Away,” Kuzikk is making waves on the international scene.
Audiences can catch Kuzikk live in Toronto on Saturday, April 26th. at JJ’s Bar & Lounge, at 2814 Lakeshore Blvd; they will be backed by Muzic Souljah and Split Personality, one of Toronto’s smoothest and rudest foundation reggae bands. The show starts at 8pm.
Working Artist Caribbean, offers a wide range of services including Caribbean entertainment development and productions, artist development, bookings and referrals, marketing and promotions, event management, logistics, and sourcing.
