Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the son of West Indies batting legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul, has been named to the Guyana Jaguars 15-man squad for the upcoming West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Professional Cricket League’s (PCL) Regional Four-Day and Nagico Super 50 Tournaments, starting Nov. 14th.
The 18-year-old left-handed opening batsman made his first-class debut for Guyana against the Leeward Islands at North Sound in Antigua in February 2013 and to date has appeared in nine first-class matches scoring 371 runs, his highest 43. He also represented the Guyana Under-19s and the West Indies Under-19s successfully.
Also included in the squad is 25-year-old left arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul. Permaul has played in 64 first-class matches taking 240 wickets. He also appeared in four Tests for the West Indies, claiming 12 wickets and in his six ODI appearances has bagged eight wickets.
The talented spinner is very keen for a recall to the West Indies team and is working hard to be consistent in the upcoming regional tournament.
The 15 retained players chosen by the local franchise are: Narsingh Deonarine, Leon Johnson, Devendra Bishoo, Veerasammy Permaul, Assad Fudadin, Christopher Barnwell, Ronsford Beaton, Anthony Bramble, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Trevon Griffith, Rajendra Chandrika, Vishaul Singh, Keon Joseph, Paul Wintz and Barbados all-rounder Raymond Reifer.
The three matches scheduled for Round 1 on Nov. 14 are Jamaica Franchise vs the Windward Islands; Volcanoes at Sabina Park; Trinidad & Tobago Red Force vs Barbados Franchise at the Queen’s Park Oval and the Guyana Franchise vs the Windward Islands Franchise at the Guyana National Stadium.
The tournament runs until March 23, 2015.
