Prime Minister Pierre Returns Amid Tropical Storm Tammy Threat

In response to the approaching Tropical Storm Tammy, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre will cut short his participation in the Canada-CARICOM Summit and commence his return journey on Thursday, October 19, 2023.

Although Saint Lucia is not currently within the immediate tropical storm watch area, it could still experience adverse weather conditions due to the approaching weather system. A tropical storm watch has been issued for Barbados, Dominica, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Antigua & Barbuda, Montserrat, and Nevis. Tropical storm conditions are expected within the watch area in the next 48 hours.

A National Emergency Management Advisory Committee (NEMAC) meeting is scheduled for today, Thursday, October 19, 2023. This underscores the significance of international cooperation and the imperative for climate action in the context of the storm and the Canada-CARICOM Summit. Residents are urged to monitor the storm’s progress and prioritize preparedness plans, recognizing the intersection of climate change, environmental resilience, and global diplomacy.
