With the boldness of a woman rooted in legacy and mission, Teri Helenese took center stage at Caribbean POSH Weekend in St. Thomas and delivered a keynote address that struck a powerful chord across the region. Speaking to a dynamic audience of Caribbean women, Helenese, the Washington Representative and Director of State-Federal Relations for the U.S. Virgin Islands, issued a rousing call to action, to lead with purpose, build unity, and wield power without apology.

Her keynote, titled “Empowering Growth: The Future of Caribbean Business in a Changing World,” resonated well beyond policy. It was a declaration. “We do not wait to be handed power, we walk in it. We do not wait for permission, we create opportunity. We do not shrink, we show up, brilliantly,” she proclaimed, electrifying the room.

Helenese’s message was grounded in her own story, from her upbringing in Frangipani, St. Croix, to her influential role in Washington, D.C. “Before the polished shoes, poise and policy meetings, I was an island gyal… right down the street from Mon Bijou,” she shared. Her journey, shaped by community and resilience, reminded attendees of their shared roots and untapped collective strength.

She invoked historical icons like Queen Mary and the Fireburn Queens, underscoring a legacy of resistance and perseverance. But her speech looked forward, too, spotlighting real achievements and policy wins. Helenese outlined victories such as the $2,500 Child Tax Credit reimbursement through 2028, regional tariff reductions, and efforts to strengthen Caribbean air and sea connectivity. “We safeguarded our supply chain… protected jobs… and now we must prioritize direct air and sea links across the Caribbean and Africa,” she urged.

Still, the emotional heartbeat of her keynote was the call for sisterhood. “Mentorship is the bridge between potential and power,” she said. “When you support a Caribbean sister’s business, you are investing in a dream, a family, and a community legacy.”

Now in its ninth year, Caribbean POSH Weekend, founded by Janette Brin, has evolved into a marquee empowerment platform, bringing together women from The Bahamas to Guyana. With masterclasses, ICON Woman Awards, and the signature PINK Sunday Sunset Sail, the event offers inspiration, connection, and now, a movement.

Helenese concluded with a message that left no doubt: “Leave with your crown straight and your voice projected. We are fully present, fully powerful, and just getting started.”

Caribbean POSH Weekend 2025 wasn’t just a celebration. It was a turning point.
